RMRPalm Export/Import
=====================

With thanks and acknowledgment to Michael Verive for his help in producing this program.

INSTALLATION
============

To install the program on your PC, just run the RMRPalmExport(PC).exe file. The program can then be run from your Start menu.

EXPORTING DATA
==============

All the latest Palm versions of RMR programs have an Options | Export selection and RMRBank and RMREXpenses have an Import option.

So run the Palm program and use that Menu option to export the data. Now Hot-sync your PDA. That will transfer the export file to the PC.

USING RMRPALMEXPORT(PC)
=======================

1.	Start the program.

2.	Select the Palm program required

3.	From the File menu select the "Open exported file"

4.	Navigate to your hotsync name backup folder. This is something like

	C:\Palm\<..hotsync name..>\Backup

	Personally I installed Palm Desktop in the \Program Files\ directory rather than in C:\, and my hot-sync name is "Alan". So my backup folder is:

	C:\Program Files\Palm\Alan\Backup\

	(You will only need to do this once, after that the program will remember the location of the Backup folder)

5.	Highlight the export file. These are of the form:

	<Program_Name>+"Export.PDB"

	So, for example, if you exported an account from RMRBank then the file will be called "RMRBankExport.pdb"

6. The export file will then be imported into the grid.

7.	From this you can then further export the file, Using the "Save as" option on the Menu, as a Quicken import file (RMRBank only), a Comma Seperated Variable (CSV) file that can be loaded in MS Excel, or a Tab-delimited ASCII file that can be imported into MS Word or a text editor.

RE-IMPORTING THE FILE TO THE PALM
=================================

1.	If you have loaded an exported file, you can then alter any of the contents of the grid by highlighting a cell, typing in the new value and selecting "Update contents". Then you can use the "Save for Palm import" to produce an updated file.

2.	To import the amended file you then need to use Palm Install (or double-click on the amended <Program_Name>+"Export.PDB" file) and another Hot-Sync, to upload the amended file to your Palm handheld. Then use the Options | Import menu command to import the file back into the account. (Note that the details will be added to the existing entries, not replace them)

IMPORTING A NEW FILE
====================

1.	You can also import QIF, CSV and ASCII files and then use the "Save for Palm import" to produce the file, and again use Palm Install (or double-click on the file) and carry out another Hot-Sync, to upload the amended file to your Palm handheld. Then use the Options | Import menu command to import the file back into the account.

2.	The important thing is that you must name the file according to the convention:

	<Program_Name>+"Export.PDB"

So if you want to import to RMRBank then you must call the file:

	RMRBankExport.pdb
